Wichita Board of Appeals of Plumbers and Gas Fitters Minutes Wednesday, May 7th, 2008 (Corrected) Present: Terry Irwin, Keith Brewer, Andy Veatch, Jerry Short, Don Vaughn, Sr., and Leon Breedlove Absent: David Lefler Staff: Sharon Dickgrafe, w/ Law Department, Billie Vines w/ Water Department, David Laws w/ Central Inspection and Kim Mudd Guests Present: Lonny Wright; Dan Leidy, w/PACK; John Shepherd, w/ Local Union 441 and Scott Harris, w/ Harris Lawn Service Chairman, Terry Irwin called the meeting to order. Jerry Short, seconded by Keith Brewer, moved to accept the April minutes, motion carried 6 - 0. Sharon Dickgrafe announced that the amendments in regards to the ratio were approved by the City Council on first reading on Tuesday, May 6th, 2008. Lonny Wright voiced his opinion on the board accepting the gas piping and sizing tables, a small discussion was held, with no action. Dan Leidy reported to the board on his findings in regards to sump pumps. In 1998 it was approved that sump pumps may have water back up. Most literature accompanying sump pumps states that it is recommend to install RPZ. Mr. Leidy stated that RPZ is now required. A committee of Sharon Dickgrafe, David Laws, Billie Vines and Kurt Schroeder was formed to devise a policy in regards to sump pumps. Dan Leidy reported to the board in regards to his findings on the 4” double tee with 2” inlet. After a lengthy discussion, Jerry Short, seconded by Keith Brewer, moved that the variance to use the 4” double tee with 2” inlet for Jayhawk Plumbing was for a one time only situation. This fitting is only good for one story buildings only. Any future usage of this fitting must notify staff and a Request for Variance must be submitted to the board, motion carried 6 – 0. Scott Harris, of Harris Lawn Service presented his Request for Variance for approval to reinstate his certificate. Mr. Harris had not renewed by the March 1st, deadline and it was with the City based exam. Andy Veatch, seconded by Jerry Short, moved to deny the Request for Variance and Mr. Harris would need to retest, motion carried 6 – 0. Mike Brady, of Crew Cut Landscape was not present for his Request for Variance for approval to reinstate his certificate. Mr. Brady had not renewed by the March 1st, deadline and it was with the City based exam. Jerry Short, seconded by Andy Veatch, moved to deny the Request for Variance and Mr. Brady would need to retest, motion carried 6 – 0. David Laws, of Central Inspection presented a pro-press gas fitting designed by Viega. Discussion was held with no action taken. The hearing for Kevin Lehane for review of criminal convictions was postponed by the request of Mr. Lehane’s attorney.
