Advance Plans Committee: 2003-4 Comprehensive Plan Update Summary of Meeting #18 7:30 am, December 23, 2004 Attendance Committee Members: Frank Garofalo, Bob Hernandez, Bud Hentzen, Ron Marnell, John McKay MAPD staff: Dave Barber, Stephen Banks, Scott Wadle Discussion Summary 1. Midtown Neighborhood-Wide Rezoning Initiative Update: ? Staff reminded the Committee that the Midtown rezoning will appear before MAPC later that day to request the public hearing on January 27, 2005. 2. Comprehensive Plan Update: ? Staff presented copies of the latest Wichita and Small Cities 2030 Growth Areas map. ? Committee members approved presentation of the 2030 Wichita Functional Land Use Guide Map, the Wichita and Small Cities 2030 Growth Areas Map and selected Comprehensive Plan policy edits to the full MAPC in January 2005. Staff agreed to send the Committee members a final version of the 2030 Wichita Functional Land Use. ? Staff explained that they plan to present these proposed Comprehensive Plan amendments at a series of public meetings (to be held possibly at Sedgwick County Extension and Wichita City Hall). A special meeting of SCAC is also proposed to discuss and obtain comments on these proposed amendments. ? Committee members recommended that the Comprehensive Plan be reviewed for content pertaining to public utilities and electric service. Strategies within the Comprehensive Plan also need to be better related to the stated objectives. This is something that will be done as part of a future (2006 at the earliest) broader review and rewrite of the Comprehensive Plan. 3. Northeast Area Plan Update: ? Staff handed out copies of the 1995 Northeast Area Plan and advised the Advance Plans Committee members of the new initiative by the City to update and revise the plan. In January, Morris Dunlap will appoint a MAPC representative to sit on the Plan Update Steering Committee. The Advance Plans Committee adjourned at 8:45 a.m.
