A special meeting of the Historic Preservation Board was held Friday, February 24, 2006 at 12:00 P.M. in the Metropolitan Area Planning Department Conference Room, City Hall, Tenth Floor, 455 N Main, Wichita Kansas. ITEM NO. 1 ROLL CALL The meeting was called to order and board members stated their names. Members Present: Kim Edgington (in at 12:10) Jim Guy Elena Ingle George Platt Lucio Arteaga Members Absent: Mim Hiesterman Roberta Johnson Staff Present: Kathy Morgan, Senior Planner, Historic Preservation, MAPD Valerie Robinson, Recording Secretary Barbara Hammond, Planning Analyst John Schlegel, Director of Planning Others in attendance: Brenda Spencer, Historic Preservation Consultant for Real Development Michael Elzufon, Real Development Brad Teeter, Spangenberg Phillips Architect Ed Wolverton, Downtown Development Corporation ITEM NO. 2 1. MAJOR: (HPC2006-00021) Environs, Kress Building APPLICANT: Real Development and Spangenberg Phillips FOR: 110 N Market and 206 East Douglas Applicant proposes to renovate interior and exterior of the old Market Exchange Building and the Michigan Building. At the February 13, 2006 Historic Preservation Board meeting, the board deferred approval of the exterior elevation design of the Market Exchange building. The architect of the project and the historic preservation consultant for the developer presented new options for the south and west elevations. Design elements were taken from the Kress and the Michigan building to blend it with its historic counterparts. The balconies will remain, but will be reduced to 18" in depth. Motion # 1 made by Guy, 2nd by Ingle to approve the exterior elevations of 110 North Market with an option to use either the double recessed balcony or the single recessed balcony.
