Wichita Board of Appeals of Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning, Warm Air Heating and Boiler Minutes Wednesday, March 27h, 2008 Present: John Shepherd, Carl Hanna, Ray Frederick, Gary Highfill, Frank Rash, Dave Hughes and Randy Holm Staff: Sharon Dickgrafe w/ Law Department, Kurt Schroeder, Stoney Nethercot, and Kim Mudd Guests Present: Joe Gassman w/ Fisher Lumber, Bart Ogden w/ Home Safe Chimney, Wilt Dod w/ Wilt Dod Installations and Dan Leidy w/ PACK Chairman, Dave Hughes called the meeting to order. Ray Frederick, seconded by Frank Rash, moved to accept the January minutes, motion carried 7 – 0. Discussion was held on the NFI (National Fireplace Institute) examinations for Wichita fireplace installers. Discussion was held from findings Ray Frederick and Carl Hanna researched. Information was shared of the different types of tests. Joe Gassman, Bart Ogden and Wilt Dod shared information in regards to the exams and continuing education they have been through. For test results, the NFI has a waiting period of four to six weeks and the Lasergrade has results the same day. Discussion was held on requesting two years of experience to sit for the Journeyman exam and possible that would be too much time. After a lengthy discussion Carl Hanna, seconded by Ray Frederick that legal should draft an ordinance for the April meeting, motion carried 7 – 0. Stoney Nethercot distributed a letter, which he had drafted, per Board recommendation, on air duct cleaning. The letter addressed the issue of Section #106.1. This letter was to be sent out to all air duct cleaning companies and fire restoration companies in Wichita. The members of the board agreed with the letter and Mr. Nethercot will proceed with his mailing. Sharon Dickgrafe updated the Board on the ordinance regarding scrap metal/AC coils. Ordinance would state that sellers would be paid with check and must show identification. Coils will need to have the tag on when being sold. The employees of scrap metal dealers who weigh would need to go to a certification class. Update on the CEU bill, which was waiting on the Governor’s signature and will go into effect on July 1, 2008. Stoney Nethercot had an update on ventilation air/natural and combustible and plenum return. Ray Frederick, seconded by John Shepherd, to adjourn the meeting, motion carried 7 – 0.
