The regular meeting of the Historic Preservation Board was held Monday, December 9, 2002 at 3:00 P.M. in the Metropolitan Area Planning Department's Conference Room, City Hall – Tenth Floor, 455 N. Main, Wichita, Kansas. Motion carried unanimously (4-0). 22. MAJOR: (HPC2002-00165) Environs, Old County Courthouse and the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument APPLICANT: TriMark Signs FOR: 434 N Main Applicant proposes to remove pole sign and create a metal-faced monument sign. Staff recommends that the board find that the project does not encroach, damage or destroy the environs of the Old County Courthouse and the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument. Motion #3 Motion made by Guy, seconded by Edgington, to find that the repositioned sign does not encroach, damage, or destroy the environs of the Old County Courthouse and the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument. Motion carried unanimously (4-0). Addition to the Agenda – 1065 N Waco, The Sternberg House Doug Mosier from the City of Wichita Law Department presented information to the Board as to the next possible actions to be taken on the condition of the Sternberg House. Motion #4 Motion made by Guy, seconded by Edgington, that a letter be sent to the Law Department requesting that they take appropriate legal action to cause all needed repairs to be made to the Sternberg House. ITEM NO. 8 MISCELLANEOUS MATTERS 1. Brick Streets : Kathy Morgan will check with Dodge City as to how the brick streets are listed there, and with National Park Service for possible procedures for listing. Contact will also be made with City of Wichita Public Works and City Council Members for an agreement on brick street repairs. Further information will be obtained on establishing a City "AR" for consistent compliance. 2. Central Rail Corridor Mitigation : Information was shared about the work that will be done on the Douglas Street RailRoad Bridge, including the fact that the present appearance of the bridge will be maintained. 3. Set date for HPB Retreat : February 10th, 2003 was selected as the Retreat date. ITEM NO. 9 ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 3:55pm. 1
