MINUTES OF ADA ACCESS ADVISORY BOARD WEDNESDAY November 30, 2005 CITY HALL, 1ST FLOOR BOARDROOM I. Jeanne Goodvin and Dave Calvert chaired the November meeting. Hinkel Department of Law Other City Staff and Guests Kent Johnson DMCG Angela Krummel CMO Jenny Thrush City of Derby ADA Coordinator The meeting convened at 10:09 a.m. by Jeanne Goodvin II. The minutes from October 26, 2005 were approved. III. Jeanne Goodvin presented Certificates of Appointment to all Access Advisory Board members and thanked them for their service. IV. Board Training Part II- Kent Johnson (DMCG) A. Memory sticks were handed out to five board members to review portions of the transition plan and provide input for DMCG recommendations. Individuals who took the memory sticks were Ron Pasmore, Marty Rothwell, Dave Calvert, Steve Stambaugh and Ed Koon. The memory sticks will be due at the next meeting on December 21st for Kent to be able to incorporate board input into the final transition plan. Five additional memory sticks will be distributed at the next meeting for the same review. The last five will complete the board review of the transition plan. V. Committee Reports and Discussion: Dave Calvert reported on the Transportation Committee saying the committee felt overwhelmed and did not know where to start. The committee decided to see what information DMCG would be able to provide on their transportation analysis and work from Kent's recommendations. Dave Calvert and Ed Koon reported on the Parking Committee. Calvert mentioned that discussion needed to take place regarding the County Arena parking. He foresees the availability of accessible parking spaces to be greatly underestimated. He would like the group to discuss how to remedy this foreseeable problem. The Parking Committee will be conducting surveys at Century II and WSU during large events to estimate the number of people parked in regular spaces due to a lack of accessible spaces available. Ed Koon presented a list of information the Parking Committee would like to request of the City of Wichita in regards to accessible parking violations. The first four are one-time requests and the last would be recurring. Jay Hinkel said the last request (detailed monthly report) might violate state statute, in which case the City would not be able to comply. * Copy of volunteer training materials. * Copy of volunteer procedure materials. * Copy of form used to record violations. * Copy of violation process procedure. * Detailed monthly report- Information regarding violations. Lori Lawrence reported on the Communication Committee stating they had been trying to contact City department heads to see if relay access and interpreting services were available. So far, they were able to reach Liz Owens and Kay Johnson, who both stated money for interpreting services, if needed, was available. They also stated the relay access was available. The committee is also investigating visual impairments. DMCG is determining whether the City's community access computers have software to make them available to the visually and hearing impaired.
