Television coverage of the regular meetings of the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission will be added this month to the program schedule of City7, the Cox Communication cable channel 7 assigned to the City of Wichita.
The coverage begins with the Jan. 10 meeting, which will be broadcast the following Friday, Jan. 11, at 9 pm. The program will repeat the following Friday. Subsequent meetings will follow the same televised schedule.
The MAPC meets two alternating Thursdays each month at 1:30 p.m. in the 10th Floor MAPC conference room of City Hall, 455 N. Main. Meeting dates are available on the Metropolitan Area Planning Department web site or by calling the Metropolitan Area Planning Department at 268-4421.
The addition of MAPC meetings to the City7 program schedule is intended to bring more openness to local government and encourage citizen involvement, according to Vice-Mayor Sharon Fearey.
“We want citizens to have this opportunity to monitor their government’s activities,” she said. “We look forward to them being more informed, and also more active in civic affairs.”
The MAPC serves as the planning commission for the City of Wichita and Sedgwick County. It is comprised of 14 members, seven each from the City and County. It is chaired by M.S. “Mitch” Mitchell.
