Thirteenth Street will be closed just west of North High School, beginning Tuesday, Jan. 15. It will be closed for extensive rehabilitation of the Minisa Bridge. When the $2.6 Million project is completed, tentatively scheduled for October 2008, the historic bridge will have new structural support and slightly wider lanes.
The designated detour will be Waco, 21st Street and Amidon. An ADA-compliant pedestrian detour also will be designated through Bitting, 11th, and Lewellen. Additionally, a low-water footbridge is being constructed north of the Minisa Bridge, for North High students and other pedestrians to cross the river. The sidewalk on the north side of the Minisa Bridge will be open for pedestrians until the footbridge is completed.
Public Works officials plan to open the bridge to one lane of traffic in each direction by the start of the 2008-09 school year.
There is not enough space to carry traffic while bridge renovations are underway. Ample access to area businesses east and west of the bridge is available from the detour, and neighborhood residents can use local streets.
