Vice Mayor Sharon Fearey has received the Kansas Recreation and Park Association’s 2008 Distinguished Elected Official award - given to an elected official who has demonstrated outstanding support for quality of life improvements.
She has been a longtime and leading supporter of neighborhoods, recreational programs, downtown revitalization and cultural arts.
“It’s special to receive an award that highlights the importance of improving the community’s quality of life,” said Fearey. “Working to improve our quality of life requires commitment and collaboration.”
“Sharon has dedicated both her time and service to improving quality of life for citizens,” said
Doug Kupper, the Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Wichita, who nominated her. “She has a vision for the future of our community and a drive to preserve Wichita’s rich heritage, cultural diversity and open spaces.”
Fearey has been involved in numerous community projects and initiatives, including Riverside Park improvements, the Evergreen Library, Neighborhood City Halls, the 21st Street Master Plan, the Historic Midtown Neighborhood Plan and Orchard Park Skate Park.
