Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer and five members of the City Council will travel to Washington, D.C., this weekend for the annual Congressional City Conference of the National League of Cities.
The conference gets underway Saturday with Leadership Training Institute seminars. It will feature four general sessions, workshops on key federal issues on Monday and Tuesday, and a City Lobby Day on Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
The Congressional City Conference will focus on NLC’s legislative priorities, which include legislation that would strengthen and stabilize America's housing finance system; securing funding for federal transportation programs; federal support for crime intervention and prevention programs; funding for the new Energy and Environment Block Grant program; and comprehensive immigration reform.
NLC is also focusing on working to make sure city issues are addressed in the presidential campaign and by whomever is elected in November as they settle into the role of President.
Council members planning to attend the conference include Sue Schlapp, Paul Gray, Jim Skelton, Jeff Longwell and Lavonta Williams.
