Traffic is back to normal at K-96 and Hydraulic and surrounding roadways less than 24 hours after a hazardous materials accident occurred. Commuters were forced to find alternate routes Tuesday morning after a butane tank rolled down an embankment onto Hydraulic and slowed interchange traffic. The tank did leak during the accident but did not catch on fire. Wednesday morning the damaged tank was transported out of Wichita to Enid, Oklahoma.
The Wichita Fire Department reports the driver of the truck fell asleep and hit a concrete barrier at approximately 4:40am Tuesday morning. Fire Marshal Ed Bricknell said the driver was not hurt. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The Wichita Fire department and partnering agencies worked together to treat the affected area at the scene. The area was reopened at approximately 1:15 am Wednesday.
