The Keeper of the Plains “Ring of Fire” is back in service after the manufacturer redesigned the firepot ignition units. The firepots were turned off in late February, because temperatures in the confined space of the firepots were too high.
The City was not charged for the repairs, because the firepots are under warranty.
The temperature in the firepots reaches 600 degrees Fahrenheit each time they ignite; during cold winter weather, extreme temperature fluctuation creates problems.
The firepots burn for 15 minutes at 9 and 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; and, 9, 10 and 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Burn times are weather permitting and affected by river levels. The Ring of Fire will not be turned on in high winds, rain or other inclement weather. If a person is too close, the firepots will not be ignited.
