The Wichita Fire Department held a ribbon cutting today at Fire Station 22 at 2659 S. Hydraulic. The $2 million dollar facility is located on one acre of land. It includes a 6,500 square foot station house and a 3,500 square foot apparatus storage area. The new station is located in District III, represented by Vice Mayor Jim Skelton.
“We’ve been looking forward to the opening of Fire Station 22,” Wichita Fire Chief Ronald D. Blackwell said. “It’s the result of a great deal of research, community collaboration and support from the Wichita City Council including Vice Mayor Skelton.”
Workers broke ground on Fire Station 22 on June 7, 2008. Firefighters moved into the new station in August of 2009. Hanney and Associates served as the architect for the project. National Builders served as the contractor.
Fire Station 22 is one of three new Wichita fire stations which opened this year. Fire Station 20, located at 2255 S. Greenwich Road, opened in April. Fire Station 21, located at 2110 North 135th West, opened in July.
