The Wichita Fire Department will host the third annual Wichita HoT (Hands on Training) fire school Saturday Sept. 12 and Sunday Sept. 13th. More than 100 firefighters from Wichita and many departments around the region are registered to attend the classes this weekend.
The event starts at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Warren Old Town Theatre in downtown Wichita. Keynote speaker Tony Tricarico, a 30 year veteran of the New York City Fire Department, will address the firefighters. Afterwards other instructors will team up at multiple locations to offer seven classes in a variety of disciplines. The classes will include topics such as vehicle extrication, arson investigation, forcible entry and truck and engine company operations among others.
“The Wichita Fire Department proudly employs some of the area’s most talented fire instructors who will deliver the highest quality training service available in this part of the country,” said Billy Wenzel, Wichita Fire Division Chief. “The mission of this fire school is to provide quality training to firefighters at a fraction of the cost.”
Members of the media are invited to attend the HoT event. There will be opportunities to interview participants and instructors at 2pm at the Wichita Fire Department Training Academy (31st Street So. and Oliver). Wichita Fire Chief Ron Blackwell will also be available to answer questions.
Additional media inquiries should be made to Captain Robert Dusenbery (P.R. coordinator) 316-619-6904 or to Chief Billy Wenzel 316-648-4521.
