For the second year in a row, the Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC) will help the Central Kansas Podiatry Associates (CKPA) collect 5,000 pairs of gently worn shoes for those in need. The shoes will be collected from the public at five area high schools from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17.
The five area high schools are:
- North High, 1437 N. Rochester;
- East High, 2301 E. Douglas Avenue;
- Northwest High, 1220 N. Tyler Road;
- South High, 701 W. 33rd Street South;
- Wichita Collegiate, 9115 E. 13th Street North
The Mayor’s Youth Council selected this service project after being contacted by the Marketing Director for CKPA, Sally Stump. Dr. Benjamin Weaver and Dr. Paul Bassi, of CKPA, are leading the campaign to collect and distribute the shoes.
“We are so excited the Mayor’s Youth Council will support our efforts again this year,” Stump said. We see a lot of patients with inadequate shoes and we wanted to give back to the community by collecting shoes for the less fortunate.”
MYC members will hold collection drives at area high schools from Oct. 12-16. The Oct. 17 public drive is the final collection day. Shoes will be delivered to the CKPA office at 933 N. Topeka St. An event flyer is attached.
