The City of Wichita has been honored once again by the National Civic League with the All-America City Award. This prestigious award recognizes grassroots efforts that bring citizens, government, businesses and non-profits together to effectively address critical local issues.
Each of the 30 All-America City finalists were in Philadelphia, PA this week competing for the award. The competition on Friday included a 10 minute presentation by Wichita’s 21 member delegation, followed by a 10 minute question and answer session with the judges. The three local projects entered as part of Wichita’s application for the award include the Cessna 21st Street Campus, the Neighborhood Initiative and Wichita’s Promise: The Alliance for Youth. The delegation members represented those three initiatives, as well as the community in general.
"We already know that our citizens are civic minded and really care about making this community the best it can be," said Mayor Bob Knight. "To have a respected organization such as the National Civic League recognize our efforts really validates our commitment. This is a great honor."
This is the 50th Anniversary of the All-America City Award. The program is one of the nation’s oldest and most respected community recognition programs.
