June 13, 2000 Dear Property Owner: The City of Wichita has contracted with Cornejo & Sons, Inc. to reconstruct the Maple Street from 119th St. W. to Maize Road. This is an extensive project and will undoubtedly have some impact on your neighborhood. Please be assured we will do our best to limit your inconveniences as much as possible during the course of this much-needed renovation. The project is slated to begin July 5, 2000, and be completed by December 15, 2000. However, as with many construction projects, these dates are dependent on weather conditions. Since this project affects traffic flow on a major street, the contractor is allowed to work a six-day work week and establish the necessary starting and ending work times each day. Contractors generally work between 6:30 AM and 6:00 PM. Construction will be performed in three phases: Phase I will consist of constructing a temporary detour on the south edge of the existing street. Traffic will continue 2-way on the existing lanes with flagmen periodically stopping traffic during construction. Phase II will consist of constructing the north half of the new street. Traffic will continue 2-way on the south existing and new temporary lanes. Phase III will consist of constructing the south half of the new street. Traffic will be moved to the newly constructed north lanes and will continue 2-way east and west. Access will be provided to all adjacent neighborhoods and businesses at all times. Maple will be widened from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane roadway with left turn lanes. The intersection of Maple & 119th Street will also be widened. The entire street right-of-way area will be disturbed by construction activities. However, at the end of the project, your area will benefit from the added traffic lanes, sidewalks and landscaping. A construction site has many hazards. Please do not allow children to play in, on, or around the construction equipment and site. A public information meeting will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2000 at 6:30 PM in Father Kocour Hall at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 645 N. 119th St. W. Please enter through the west doors of the school. If you have any questions regarding this project, please feel free to contact Sam Langhofer, Project Manager with Cornejo & Sons, Inc. at 522-5100, or our project engineer, Gary Janzen, at 268-4044. Sincerely, Mike Lindebak, P.E.,City Engineer
