Proposed Redesignation Of Certain Highway Route Numbers Around The Metropolitan Wichita Area

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is considering eliminating the K-254 route designation between El Dorado and Wichita, replacing it with US-54, and subsequently removing the US-54 designation from Kellogg Ave. The new US-54 designation would also apply to the future Northwest Wichita and Goddard Bypass.

The proposed highway routing would leave the US-400 designation on Kellogg Ave., but would eliminate approximately 52 miles of dual signing where US-54 runs dual with US-400 from west of Goddard and continuing east through Wichita, Andover, and Augusta to Pickrell Corner where US-54 then currently runs dual with US-77 to El Dorado.

Actual signage on the designated routes would not change until the Northwest Wichita and Goddard bypass is actually built and open to traffic.

As the Wichita-Sedgwick County Metropolitan Planning Organization, we have been asked by KDOT to seek comments from the public and affected parties regarding this route designation proposal.
