Today, the City of Wichita, in cooperation with Northwest Airlines, proudly announced an additional daily, non-stop flight to Mid-Continent Airport. Beginning December 19, 2001, Northwest will begin offering nonstop jet service between its Minneapolis/St. Paul hub and Wichita. The airline’s Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ) will serve the new route. "We are very pleased with Northwest Airlines' decision to expand its jet service at Mid-Continent Airport," said Mayor Bob Knight. "Northwest’s announcement today, in light of the events in aviation over the past few weeks, exemplifies how important a growth market our community is to existing and potential airlines." The City of Wichita has been continuously researching new avenues to bring better air service to Wichita. "The expanded partnership between Northwest Airlines and the Wichita community is exciting," said Mayor Knight. "Minneapolis is a top destination for many of our local business and leisure travelers." Connecting service with Northwest Airlines through Minneapolis and Memphis will now be possible for nearly all of Mid-Continent’s top 100 destinations. Efforts are still continuing to bring more developments such as this to improve Mid-Continent’s air service quality for Wichita.
