Wichita Police Chief Norman D. Williams announces the promotion of Robert C. Lee to the rank of Deputy Chief of Police. Deputy Chief Lee has more than 20 years of service with the Wichita Police Department, and his new assignment will be as the Deputy Chief of the Support Services Division.
Deputy Chief Lee joined the Wichita Police Department in November of 1980 and was promoted to the rank of Master Police Officer in December 1986, to the rank of Detective in April 1987, to the rank of Lieutenant in April 1990 and to the rank of Captain in September 1999. His most recent assignment as a Captain was the Bureau Commander of the Crimes Against Person Bureau in the Investigations Division.
Deputy Chief Lee’s educational accomplishments include a Masters Degree and a Bachelor of Science Degree, both in Administration of Justice, from Wichita State University.
He has received additional training during his career covering a wide variety of topics from top law enforcement education providers such as Leadership in the Information Age at the Midwest Criminal Justice Institute, Command Development Academy sponsored by the Kansas Peace Officers Association, and the Herman Goldstein Problem Oriented Policing Conference.
Deputy Chief Lee attended the Executive Development Institute, co-sponsored by the City of Wichita, Sedgwick County and Wichita State University, and he also participated in a two-week Ethics in Government training at Wichita State University.
During his career, Deputy Chief Lee has been awarded the Wichita Police Department’s Silver Wreath of Valor, several Bronze Wreaths of Meritorious Service and numerous Certificates of Commendation.
He is a recipient of the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police Bronze Award for Meritorious Police Service; and for his dedication on behalf of child advocacy, he received national recognition from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Deputy Chief Lee’s community involvement includes serving on the Team Justice grant preparation board, and as a member of the Court Advocacy committee for the Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center. Deputy Chief Lee was instrumental in the creation of the South Central Kansas Infant Protection Program, which is the largest collaborative effort between health care providers and law enforcement in the nation, and he co-authored the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Grant.
