Imagine being pinned in your car from the impact of a motor vehicle accident, or your child gets their head stuck between a staircase or fence railings. In most cases, the City of Wichita Fire Department will be the first on the scene and will use rescue tools to free the victim. These large rescue tools can be somewhat traumatic and scary for the victim.
Through a grant received from the Sam’s Club Community Grants Program the Department will now be able to purchase a small special rescue tool called the “saws-all.” This small tool is fast cutting and will allow firefighters the ability to free victims much quicker than some of the larger equipment.
“Time is critical when trying to save a life,” said Chief Randy Stearns. ”The Wichita Fire Department’s goal is to have one of these tools on every rescue unit serving the City of Wichita.”
Fire Department officials will be on hand at 1 PM, Tuesday, July 2, at Fire Station #1, to demonstrate the use of this rescue tool. At that time, they will be presented with the grant check from Sam’s Club Associates.
