October is National Crime Prevention month, and this year’s Seminar offers several informative workshops that focus on crime prevention. Featured topics include: Hands on Personal Safety:Sgt. Bruce Morton with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department will conduct hands-on training for defending yourself from an attack. Kansas Weather:Chance Hayes, Warning Coordination Meteorologist, will teach you how to react when a storm approaches. Ready to Respond:Deanne Konkel, Sedgwick County Emergency Management, will teach you how to be ready for any type of disaster from a terrorist attack to a flood.

Meth Labs:Citizens will learn about the current meth problems in Sedgwick County and how local businesses are helping in the fight against this illegal drug.
Residential Traffic:Master Police Officer T.J. Ohlemier of the Derby Police Department will address how law enforcement handles speeding complaints in residential areas and how technology helps.
Landscaping and Security:Horticulturist Don Meyer, Wichita Area Technical College, will teach how landscaping and security go hand in hand and what changes a homeowner can make in their landscaping to help prevent crime.
