On November 16, the Wichita Public Library will open its newest branch library! Conveniently located at the corner of 25th and Arkansas, the Evergreen District Branch Library will combine the resources of Minisa and Marina Lakes branches while expanding collections, staff, hours, programs, and services. “We’re terribly excited about our opportunities with this new location at 2601 N. Arkansas,” Director of Libraries Cynthia Berner Harris stated. “Not only will the extra space allow for more materials and programs for all ages, but we have new partnering possibilities.” Plaza de los Niños Head Start and Wichita ACTS on Truancy will share the building with the Library, offering more chances for these organizations dedicated to lifelong learning to work together. The community meeting room will provide space for expanded library programs. One example is a new service in the works: a tool lending library, the product of a cooperative effort of the Library and Community Housing Services. The Evergreen Branch Library will be comparable to the full-service Rockwell and Westlink District Branch Libraries. The new branch will not only serve a wider portion of North Central Wichita, but also will increase the number of items in the Library’s collection, a change that will be enjoyed system-wide. Hours for Evergreen will be identical to those at Rockwell and Westlink. Evergreen will be open Monday through Thursday from 10 AM–9 PM, Friday and Saturday from 10 AM–5 PM, and Sunday from 1–5 PM. Customers who have enjoyed the rapport with staff at Marina Lakes and Minisa branches will be greeted by the same smiling and familiar faces at Evergreen. Additional staff has been hired so that more employees will be available to assist customer information needs. Special events are planned throughout the weekend of November 16-17. Please drop by and see the new building! Join us in our meeting room for a program, get a library card, check out new books, or just browse in the stacks. Ask for a complete list of activities at your favorite branch or visit our website, http://www.wichita.lib.ks.us/ for full details.
