The Wichita Fire Department want to remind all citizens that “zero tolerance” will be the enforcement this year for those caught shooting illegal fireworks.

The department recognizes that shooting fireworks during the Fourth of July Holiday is a great American tradition but with this tradition comes the possible risk of injury to others and property damage.

Over the years, the department and the City have tried to educate citizens about the dangers of fireworks in every way possible, but with injuries and property damage continuing to happen the department is forced to implement more strict enforcement measures.

People who shoot illegal fireworks within the City of Wichita will risk having their fireworks confiscated, issued a ticket which carries a fine of $75 and possible as much as $500, plus a mandatory court appearance.

The City wants everyone to have a fires safe holiday. Please remember to shoot them where you buy them.
