Dogs - and dog lovers - will have their day when CityArts hosts the 17th Annual Art Show at the Dog Show Feb. 25 through March 28. An international juried art show devoted exclusively to canine art, the exhibit features works in nine media categories, including oil, acrylic and watercolor painting; jewelry; sculpture; photography and pastels. A panel of three jurors - Dr. David Butler, Peter Belmont, Jr., and Mary Lynn Machado (last year’s winner of Best of Show) - will select almost 200 works from 448 pieces submitted by 191 artists from across the United States and beyond. Cash prizes will be awarded including a Best of Show purchase prize offered by the show’s sponsors, Wichita Kennel Club, Hutchinson Kennel Club, Salina Kennel Club, and Wichita Dog Training Club. The Best of Show winner will be donated to the American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog in St. Louis. In addition to the pieces on display at CityArts, 225 W. Lewis, works from Art Show at the Dog Show will also be exhibited Feb. 26 through April 2 at Century ll Concert Hall Gallery, 225 W. Douglas. The exhibit will move to the Kansas Coliseum for the Sunflower Cluster Dog Show April 3-6. A Dog Gone Party for dogs (on leashes or leads, please) and their owners will be held in conjunction with the show from 1 to 3 p.m. March 22 at CityArts. Dogs are invited to bring their owners out for an afternoon of fun. Admission is free with entry fees charged for events such as a costume contest, Stupid Dog Tricks, and canine photos and sketches.
