This is the last week to nominate a public employee for the 16th annual Excellence in Public Service Awards. The program recognizes employees representing the City, Sedgwick County, and the Wichita Public School district who exhibit the highest standards of dedication and provide exemplary service when carrying out their responsibilities. The DeVore Foundation sponsors the Excellence in Public Service Awards.
Nomination forms will be accepted through April 18. Nomination forms are available in the City Manager’s Office, the County Communications Office and USD 259’s Marketing Office. Nomination forms may also be completed online at www.wichita.gov.
Three award recipients are selected each year, one from each organization. Each honoree will receive $2,500. Honorees will be chosen by a nine-member committee, which consists of members from the public and private sector. The program enhances the image of employees in the public sector, and gives recognition to those who go above and beyond the call of duty.
Recipients of the award are first "surprised at work" by their supervisors, colleagues, members of the Awards Committee, the DeVore family and the media in a coordinated, unannounced visit. The recipients are later honored at a reception attended by their friends, family members and coworkers and are presented with their awards at that time.
