Low-Fare Carrier Completes Fleet Reconfiguration for More Leg Room and All- Leather Seating

Las Vegas-based, low fare airline Allegiant Air, LLC has expanded its leg room and upgraded its seating to be fit for even "The King" himself. In a move contrary to current airline industry trends, the company has removed three rows of seating from each aircraft in its scheduled fleet, providing its customers an average of three additional inches in leg room comfort, without impacting the airline’s popular everyday low fares.

"Today we are pleased to offer our customers even greater value for their money with our newly expanded and upgraded seating," Maurice J. Gallagher, Allegiant Air president & CEO, said. "Since we began growing our scheduled service two years ago, we’ve made traveling to Las Vegas affordable and convenient for consumers in 14 markets across the U.S. Our customers can now enjoy increased seat comfort, without sacrificing the low fare price structure and non-stop convenience they have come to appreciate from Allegiant."

The elimination of the three rows of seating has allowed the airline to extend its seat pitch from 29 inches to an average of 33 inches. Seat pitch is a common industry measurement of leg room and is the space between seats, which is measured by the distance from a particular point on one seat to the identical point on the seat behind it. In addition, 80% of seating on Allegiant aircraft are either window or aisle seats, a feature of the MD80 series utilized by the company.

As part of the nearly $2 million investment to improve the value and comfort of its product for its customers, the company has also upgraded all its seats to genuine leather and has incorporated new comfort-seating cushions.

"Our goal was to develop a comfortable, ergonomic design," Gallagher said. "Our newly updated and renovated cabins now feature all-leather seats, which provide superior comfort for our customers. And in addition to being more attractive, the leather seats offer greater durability and are more cost-effective to maintain."

The company spent more than a year meticulously researching, planning and executing the seating changes. Part of the process included an extensive review of design to ensure maximum customer satisfaction. Working with Brice Manufacturing Company of Pacoima, Calif., the cushions were engineered and reshaped several times to ensure the utmost comfort and positioning. Particular attention was paid to the lumbar support as well as enhanced personal space. By incorporating slight reductions in cushion thickness in key points, the design is not only ergonomically correct, but allows even more legroom as passengers can sit farther back in the seat. New carpet has also been installed throughout the cabin in each of the aircraft.

Allegiant Air features non-stop, low-cost travel to the glamour and excitement of Las Vegas from 14 markets across the country. Allegiant Vacations, the airline’s vacation division, features complete air and hotel vacation packages with 25 of Las Vegas’ most exciting hotel properties, including the Bellagio, Venetian, Paris, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Monte Carlo, Mirage, Golden Nugget, Excalibur, Tropicana, Bally’s, Flamingo, Four Queens, Riviera, Frontier, Luxor, Circus Circus, Imperial Palace, Hotel San Remo, Gold Coast, Boardwalk, Westin Casuarina, Stardust, Orleans and Plaza.
