Since BTK resurfaced last March the Wichita Police Department has worked diligently on the investigation. The local media and the public have both played an important role in the investigation. The media is quick to get needed information out to the public, and citizens have also been quick to respond providing thousands of tips and leads. The tips and leads that we receive from citizens take investigators in many different directions. During any investigation it is not uncommon for the detectives and officers to come in contact with citizens who have active warrants. Per police policy, investigators are obligated to make an arrest on any and all active warrants. The BTK investigation is complicated and intense, and police are mandated to follow up on all viable leads. The undue attention from the media that is being placed on these activities is counterproductive. It is a travesty when neighborhoods are disrupted in the manner witnessed today. The Wichita Police Department deeply appreciates all the help it has received from the media and the public, but sincerely asks that we all behave in a responsible manner. Citizens with tips or information on BTK who are calling locally are asked to call 383-8273; those calling from outside the Wichita area are asked to call 1-866-SOLVBTK (1-866-765-8285). They can also e-mail information to coldcase@wichita.gov or mail information to Cold Case, P.O. Box 9202, Wichita, KS 67277-0202. Back to Top
