Mid-Continent is opening a new 436 space, credit-card only parking lot, at noon today. This lot, located separate from the main parking lot, was designed to add additional capacity due to record-setting passenger travel that has created congestion at the existing parking lot. Over the last few years, the parking space crunch has been especially noticeable during peak travel holidays. The new lot is located just west of Mid-Continent drive and will accommodate credit card traveling passengers with a shuttle bus to and from the terminal. "We are fortunate to have had the vacant land to build this needed additional parking within a short distance from the terminal, said Tom Nolan, Deputy Director of Airports. This new Shuttle Lot may be an attractive alternative for passengers who use a credit card to pay for parking." The lot is totally automated for credit card use only and the customer can come and go as they please. The technology is similar to the automation found when using a credit card to buy gas at the pump. A shuttle van will be available for passenger pickup and drop-off right in front of the terminal. The rates for the "Shuttle Lot" will be the same fee as the main long-term lot, $7 per day. For more information, contact: Tom Nolan, Assistant Director of Airports, 946-4700.
