The City of Wichita has named Tom Nolan as Interim Director of Airports. Tom succeeds Bailis Bell who will retire at the end of this year after 35 years with the City of Wichita.
Tom will officially begin serving as Interim Director on Jan. 1, 2005, supervising a department of more than 100 individuals that handles tasks as various as capital improvement projects, public safety, engineering and the maintenance of the city’s airports, both Mid-Continent and Jabara. He will oversee a budget of nearly $20 million.
Tom joined the City in 2003. He is an accredited airport management professional with nearly 20 years of airport management and operations experience from six different airports including DeKalb Peachtree Airport, Atlanta, Ga., and General Mitchell International, Milwaukee, Wis. Tom was Airport Director in Youngstown, Ohio and Worcester, Mass., as well as Assistant Airport Director for Detroit City Airport. He has experience with airport development projects including new terminal construction.
Tom has a business administration degree with an emphasis in marketing from Marquette University. In addition, he holds a private pilots license.
