Second Limb Clean-Up Sweep Update

The second limb clean-up sweep is progressing well. The clean-up efforts will move faster as crews make it through some of the heavier areas. The City is still working on hanging limbs and hazardous tree removals in some of these neighborhoods, and will pick them up as they are removed. Citizens are not to bring limbs to the curb that were not ice storm damage, as the FEMA rules cover only ice storm damage. Tree limbs from pruning and tree trimming activities should be disposed of at the expense of the owner.

In addition, some of the major traffic streets still remain to be picked up, even within the completed areas. Do not worry that these high traffic streets have been missed, as they will also be picked up as quickly as possible. These major streets are generally being picked up on weekends when traffic is lighter, for the safety of the public and the workers. Drivers should be alert for this as they drive on weekends, and please slow down through these work areas.

Citizens are still invited to bring limbs to Brooks Landfill, where they will be accepted free of charge through Saturday, March 27th. The hours at Brooks are 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Saturday. The response from citizens has been outstanding, and the City appreciates assistance from citizens by hauling in their own limbs. This helps the City complete the job much more quickly.

Citizens are reminded not to bring limbs to the street after the second pass, as this is the final pass by the City. Any limbs remaining after the second pass must be disposed of by citizens at their own expense.

For further information, a map is available on the City's web site at www.wichita.gov showing the progress of the second sweep through residential streets and neighborhoods. A special hotline has been established for citizens to call if they were missed by the second sweep. The hotline number is 268-4070.
