The 21st Street Bridge over the West Branch of Chisholm Creek (at St. Francis) will undergo a seven month reconstruction process beginning June 27. Traffic on 21st Street will be limited to eastbound-only during the summer and early fall, with westbound traffic detoured using Mosley, 17th Street and Market. Klaver Construction Company, Inc. is the contractor for the project. The project will be completed by January 2006.
The Construction will be performed in two major phases:
Phase 1: (June 27 to late October) will consist of removal of the north half of the existing bridge and its reconstruction with new asphalt, concrete and railings. New water and gas lines will also be placed under the roadway. Only one lane of eastbound traffic will be allowed during this phase. Signs will be placed to detour traffic.
Phase 2: (late October to early January) will consist of removal and reconstruction of the south half of the existing bridge. During this phase, estimated to last three months, 21st Street will be open to two-way traffic with one lane of traffic in each direction. Access to businesses will be maintained.
