The railroad tracks that bisect the downtown core of Wichita are being elevated from Douglas to 17th Street, to eliminate street level crossings and traffic disruptions from train activity. The construction process, however, will require some interruption of traffic.
Every weekend in July, Dondlinger & Sons Construction crews will install temporary railroad track crossings across Central, Murdock and 13th Street. The temporary crossings will shift train traffic to the east side of the rail corridor while construction takes place on the west side.
To minimize traffic disruption, the July weekend closures will start on Fridays at approximately 6 PM through Monday at approximately 6 AM. The closure schedule will be:
-
Central, east of Santa Fe Friday, July 8 - Monday, July 11
-
Murdock, east of Santa Fe Friday, July 15 - Monday, July 18
-
13th Street, east of Santa Fe Friday, July 22 - Monday July 25
During the closures traffic will be detoured as follows:
-
Central traffic will be detoured using St. Francis, Murdock and Washington Streets
-
Murdock traffic will be detoured using St. Francis, Central and Washington Streets
-
Eastbound 13th Street traffic will be detoured using Emporia, 17th Street and Mosley
-
Westbound 13th Street traffic will be detoured using Mosley, 17th Street and St. Francis
