Victor White has been named Director of Airports for the City of Wichita. Beginning Sept. 12, White will serve as the top administrator at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport and Colonel James Jabara Airport.
White, 54, of Lake Mary, Fla., was executive vice president and chief operating officer of Orlando Sanford International Airport until June 30, 2005. He served seven years as a top administrator at Orlando Sanford, where he resigned to seek the top management position at another airport. He was the executive director of Orlando Sanford his first three years there.
"The Wichita airport system has great assets, with the services and facilities they have now," White said. "I look forward to growing those services and facilities and making a further contribution to the local economy."
White was one of five finalists who interviewed with City Manager George Kolb and members of a search committee. His hiring caps a six-month search conducted by an executive search firm. "Vic’s background and experience are a good match for Mid Continent Airport and the future growth challenges it faces," Kolb said.
White’s airport career covers 29 years, including 15 as a top administrator. He had stints in Waukegan, Ill.; Midland, Texas; Salt Lake City; and Cleveland. He succeeds longtime director of airports Bailis Bell, who retired in December 2004. Since Bell’s departure, Tom Nolan has served as the City of Wichita’s interim director of airports. Nolan will return to his position as assistant director of airports.
