Reconstruction on South Hydraulic between 57th and 63rd streets begins Monday, Dec. 5, 2005. Street construction includes the bridge over the Riverside Drainage Canal, just south of 57th Street. The project is scheduled for completion July 1, 2006.
Because this project affects traffic flow on a major street, contractor Cornejo & Sons, Inc. will be allowed to work six days a week, between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., in order to complete the project as soon as possible.
Nearly 7,200 motorists each day drive the stretch of South Hydraulic scheduled for road improvements.
Phase 1 will consist of storm sewer and street construction of southbound Hydraulic from the Riverside Drainage Canal to 63rd Street. Bridge construction over the Canal will also begin during this phase. Hydraulic will be closed at the bridge. Local access will be provided through Hydraulic to areas south of 55th Street and north of the bridge. South of the bridge, intermittent lane closures will occur but local access will be maintained.
Phase 2 will consist of storm sewer and street construction of northbound Hydraulic from the Riverside Drainage Canal to 63rd Street. Bridge construction over the Canal will continue.
Northbound and southbound motorists who do not live or work in the area will be detoured to Broadway at 55th and 63rd.
