Wichita Mayor Carlos Mayans has been appointed to the 2006 Nominating Committee of the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM). Nominating Committee members serve in the role of helping steer the organization and selecting members for key posts.
“Because of your dedication and service to our organization, your participation in our most important task of selecting our officers, Trustees, and Advisory Board members will be most helpful to the Conference,” said Beverly O’Neill, USCM President and Mayor of Long Beach, Calif. in a letter announcing the appointment.
"I am honored to serve in a key leadership role for an organization dedicated to helping citizens through improving cities," Mayor Mayans said.
Mayor Mayans received additional good news that USCM has accepted Wichita’s Fair Fare$ program as one of 15 finalists among this nation’s largest cities for the 2006 City Livability Awards Program.
USCM, based in Washington DC, is a leading municipal organization that helps mayors facilitate the sharing of local improvements, innovations and best practices. The USCM promotes effective national urban/suburban policy, strengthens federal-city relationships, ensures that federal policy meets urban needs and provides mayors with leadership and management tools. It is the official nonpartisan organization of the nation's 1183 U.S. cities, with populations of 30,000 or more.
