This past weekend a citizen received a phone call asking several questions about their water use and quality. While the person was not able to get the caller's name, the caller identified themselves as being with the "Water Company." The citizen contacted the City of Wichita Water & Sewer Department to ask why she was getting these questions. After some review, it was determined that this call may have been from a water softener company, attempting to sell a product.
The City of Wichita thought it would be a good time to remind citizens that City of Wichita employees do not make unsolicited calls. Any time the City of Wichita calls upon a citizen it will be in response to an inquiry received from the citizen. Also, City employees always identify themselves as being with the City of Wichita. If a City employee needs to visit a home, they always present a City of Wichita picture ID card. Finally, if there is a question, citizens should call the City of Wichita department to confirm that any person seeking admittance to their home is in fact a City employee on official business before admitting them. The need for a City employee to enter a person's home is rare and should be questioned.
