Deputy Chief Robert Lee and Deputy Chief Thomas have been assigned to new positions within the Wichita Police Department. Deputy Chief Lee is now assigned to the Field Services Division (268-4239) after commanding the Investigations Division. Deputy Chief Thomas Stolz has moved from the Field Services Division to the Investigations Division (268-4407). The reassignments went into effect Saturday, August 12, 2006.

During the past few years Deputy Chief Thomas Stolz, while supervising the Field Services Division, was instrumental with initiating and implementing various new initiatives, which have enhanced the Wichita Police Department Community Police Philosophy. One initiative, the “Beat Team Concept,” increased accountability and teamwork among Community Police Officers and Beat Officers. Another, the 4-x-10 workshift, has proven beneficial for citizens and department members.  In addition, Deputy Chief Stolz was significantly involved with implementing tasers within the Police Department. While commanding the Field Services Division, Deputy Chief Stolz’ leadership was key in the effort that secured the Police Department a second Webber Seavey Award from the International Association of Chiefs of Police and Motorola. The award recognized efforts related to the Planeview Activity Camp for Kids (P.A.C.K.) Project.

Deputy Chief Robert C. Lee, while commanding the Investigations Division, was significantly involved with supervising the BTK serial killer investigation and the subsequent arrest of Dennis Rader in February 2005. Deputy Chief Lee and the Investigations Division Command staff developed and implemented a forty-hour, investigation-training program, which enabled detectives from the Police Department Detectives and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office to gain valuable investigative information to assist with their assignments as detectives. Under Deputy Chief Lee’s leadership, the 6th floor of the Investigations Division saw significant interior design improvements.
