Jim Norris has been named Chief Information Officer for the City of Wichita, the top technology post charged with overseeing the City's information systems and computer operations.
Norris is a 25-year veteran of information systems management in both the military and civilian sectors. For the past six years, he has been Information Technologies Director for Cochise County in Bisbee, AZ.
As the City's CIO, Norris will work with the Information Technology/Information Systems (IT/IS) Advisory Board of senior staff members, developing technology standards and procedures. He also will oversee all technology purchasing and leasing agreements.
“We are extremely fortunate to have found someone with such distinguished qualifications,” City Manager George Kolb said. “Jim will play a critical role in helping the City meet the demanding and dynamic challenges of information technology.”
Norris has a master’s degree in information technology from San Francisco International University and a bachelor's degree in information systems management from the University of Maryland. He held a variety of information technology posts during a 20-year career with the U.S. Army. Norris will begin working for the City on November 6.
