Today, the Q-Line returns as Wichita’s downtown trolley loop takes its riders to over 50 different lunch spots throughout the downtown. For the third year in a row, the Q-Line is providing great downtown coverage, quarter rides, frequent pick-up points and the opportunity for its riders to save gas money as fuel costs are expected to rise throughout the summer.

“The Q” has trolleys running Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 2 PM throughout the summer. As part of the improvement to the service, routes were streamlined into two main routes during the week, and the Saturday route only on the weekends. The Green Route Q Line circulates throughout Downtown generally from the Library, to Old Town, to the Government District and to Century II.  This will have pick-ups every 10 minutes. Because of WaterWalk construction, the Downtown Green line will shorten just slightly South of Main Street, turning on English rather than south of Kellogg, which helped make the route faster.

The Blue Route Q circulates along Douglas Street and connects Old Town and Delano. This route operates on a 20-minute schedule.

The Saturday Orange Route Q carried the most riders last year. This route will continue and with two trolleys that connect the museum, hotels, Old Town, Delano and Riverside Park. This route runs 10 am - 4 pm with stops every 30 minutes. For all the schedule information on all routes, go to www.theqline.com.

"We are really proud of this partnership between the City of Wichita and WDDC to make downtown more accessible for lunchtime and meetings not only for our citizens but also our visitors,” said Ed Wolverton, President of the Wichita Downtown Development Corporation (WDDC). “We hope that the citizens will take advantage of this service, and enjoy the nostalgia of riding a trolley in downtown Wichita.”

“The Q-Line” is the official name of this program but an abbreviated “The Q” will be more dominate. If someone is wondering what The Qs are on the streets downtown, this is the answer. The Qs mark the spots of trolley stops. However, anyone can grab the Q by simply waving down the driver of the trolley. Riders pay only a Quarter and can reach 50 different locations downtown for lunch. The Q provides Quick transportation to help downtown workers so they can Quit wasting gas and money while letting the City’s Quality Transit employees do the driving.

The City of Wichita’s Transit Services department has developed the program and the route to utilize the trolley more and assist downtown businesses and their employees. The Trolley Division is self-sustaining, gaining its revenue from charter fees and advertising. Presently, trolley services include: charters, holiday light tours, event shuttles and the Discover Historic Wichita tours. On Saturdays, a special Museum Loop Orange Q-Line shuttle will run from 10 AM to 4 PM to connect the downtown hotels, museums and attractions for citizens and visitors every 30 minutes.
