On Monday, March 19, 2007, traffic pattern changes in the Kellogg and Rock Road area will take effect.
On Rock Road, through lanes will be reduced but both northbound and southbound traffic will have two through lanes and one left turn lane.
About 70,000 motorists travel daily through the Kellogg-Rock Road intersection. The speed limit is reduced to 35 mph in the construction zone. Motorists are encouraged to follow the directional signs and drive courteously.
Construction of utilities under the North Frontage Road has started. The North Frontage Road will re-open in July.
Old Chicago will move to 7626 E. Kellogg, a new location west of the present location, after a moving celebration Sunday night. The restaurant will open for business in the new location on Monday. When North Frontage Road is complete, Old Chicago and Firestone can access through the Towne East Mall parking lot. There are 250 businesses in close proximity to the project and access is being provided to all of them.
A Notice to Proceed was given to Wildcat Construction on February 5, 2007. The project consists have mainline and frontage road reconstruction from Governour to east of Rock Road. The first phase of work will be construction of the north frontage road and the reconstruction of Rock Road. The second phase will be the construction of the South Frontage Road and construction of half of the Rock Road Bridge.
The third phase will be the second half of Rock Road Bridge, Armour Road Bridge and the mainline roadway. In the final configuration, the Kellogg Freeway will be over Armour and under Rock Road. When the project is complete, there will be no traffic signals for 13 miles through Wichita, from 111th Street West to Cypress. The project is expected to be complete in the spring 2010.
