Turnpike to 127th Street East
A 2.5-mile stretch of East Kellogg, from Cypress (near the Turnpike) to 127th Street East, will be resurfaced beginning July 30. Completion is expected by Sept. 7.
The $743,000 project will consist of milling the existing surface, patching the concrete base and placing a new asphalt surface on all lanes of Kellogg in the project area.
The westbound lanes will be resurfaced first, followed by the eastbound lanes. One lane of traffic in one direction and two lanes of traffic in the other direction will be maintained during the process, although intermittent flagging may be required.
The intersection at Webb Road is not affected by this work because it has a concrete surface and is in good condition. The work in the intersection at Greenwich will be accomplished at night to lessen the impact on traffic, but the remainder of the work will be done between 7 AM and 6 PM. Left turns at the Greenwich intersection will be allowed when possible, but there will be times when left turns cannot be made. The contractor will work at least six days per week, excluding Labor Day.
The repairs will address surface deterioration and wheel rutting, along with slab and subgrade failures under the asphalt surface. Kellogg freeway improvements are not expected in this area for several years.
