City Vehicles to Display CrimeStoppers Stickers

Beginning this week, City of Wichita vehicles will begin displaying CrimeStoppers window decals as part of a campaign to encourage more citizens to report crime and raise awareness about the successful crime-fighting program, Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer said.

“We want to encourage citizens to report criminal behavior,” Brewer said. “This added visibility will significantly increases public awareness of CrimeStoppers and help combat efforts to reduce crime. The major benefit to calling CrimeStoppers is that the caller has anonymity. Citizens can be confident that they can report a crime or suspect by calling 316-267-2111.

About 2,400 vehicles in the City’s fleet are on the streets each day, Chris Carrier, the City of Wichita’s Public Works Director, said: “We’re planning on placing them on dump trucks, pickups, cars, motor graders, basically every motorized vehicle if we can find a place to put it.”

Originating in Wichita 27 years ago, CrimeStoppers is a non-profit organization of citizens against crime. It promotes apprehension of criminals by offering anonymity and cash rewards. More than 2,300 people have been arrested and nearly $270,000 has been paid out as a result of anonymous tips.
