17th Street will be closed between St. Francis and Santa Fe Streets for five months beginning Oct. 29 for construction of railroad track and drainage improvements. Traffic will be detoured to 21st Street. The work is part of the City’s downtown Central Railroad Corridor Project that includes new railroad bridges at First, Second, Central, Murdock, and Thirteenth Streets, and improvements to the Douglas Avenue overpass. Work on the Central Corridor began on April 18, 2005, and will be completed in four phases to elevate railroad tracks onto new bridges. The closing of 17th Street is the beginning of the third phase. Completion of the project is scheduled for spring of 2009. Back to Top
