New Orleans Hosts Annual Event
Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer and members of the City Council will travel to New Orleans this week for the annual Congress of Cities and Exposition sponsored by the National League of Cities.
In addition to the Mayor, Council Members Sue Schlapp, Paul Gray, Jeff Longwell and Lavonta Williams will attend all or part of the five-day conference.
The Wichita delegation will join thousands of local officials from across the country who will gather in New Orleans to focus on municipal leadership.
The conference, being held November 13-17, will feature general sessions, workshops, Leadership Training Institute seminars, an exhibit hall full of municipal vendors and the City Showcase, mobile workshops, community service opportunities and social events.
Key topics to be addressed at the conference during policy meetings, general sessions and workshops include infrastructure, tax reform, violent crime, sustainability and climate change, education, immigration reform, housing foreclosures and broadband.
Because of the NLC conference, there will be no weekly Tuesday meeting of the Wichita City Council.
