Odors may increase in surrounding areas

The odor control system of a sewage treatment plant in southcentral Wichita will be temporarily shut down for as much as three weeks, starting Tuesday, April 17. During this time the odors may increase at the facility, located at 2305 E 57th St. South, and in the surrounding area.

Wichita Utilities officials will discuss the shutdown during a 10:30 a.m. news conference in the City Manager’s Office at City Hall, 455 N. Main. Media are encouraged to attend the news conference in the West Conference Room, following the regularly scheduled Media Agenda Review.

Odor-control material is required to be replaced every three to five years. Tuesday’s shutdown marks the first at this facility.

The Wichita Water Utilities supports the City of Wichita’s Efficient Infrastructure initiative, by replacing this wastewater infrastructure.  Current materials have reached the end of usefulness and require replacement to bring the system back to optimum performance.
