City of Wichita officials are asking residents whose property was damaged in the recent flood to call a stormwater utility number (268-4498) in an effort to help assess overall damage. City public works, public safety and other staffers continue to assess property damage from the flood. The collected data will help determine if Sedgwick County qualifies as a FEMA Presidential Disaster Declaration area, which helps secure federal assistance. Sedgwick County Emergency Management is the leading organization regarding assessment of flood damage and efforts to seek state and federal assistance. Damage assessment data must be delivered to Sedgwick County Emergency Management no later than 5 p.m. on Friday. “We’re not yet certain how many homes were damaged,” Chris Carrier, Director of Public Works for the City of Wichita, said. ”Determining that is a time-consuming, street-by-street, door-to-door process. The collected information must be accurate and thorough.” There have been no reported flood-related deaths in the city of Wichita, according to the Wichita Fire Department.
