Frontier Airlines began its low-fare service at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport on Oct. 1, 2007. The airline is marking its anniversary today at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport by serving refreshments at their gate on Wednesday. Prior to Frontier’s service in Wichita, fares to the 12 most popular western destinations had increased 50% since 2004. Frontier has lowered western fares an average of 50%. In just one year, total passengers at ICT have increased 11%, or 141,850 more passengers (year-end March 2007 vs. year-end March 2008). The increase in passengers is attributed in large part to Frontier’s October 2007 entrance into the Wichita market. The following table shows an example of 14-day advance purchase fares to five top destinations from Wichita, comparing March 2007 (before Frontier) with fares on Sept. 30, 2008. The following table shows fares to Denver from airports that lack a low-fare carrier, as well as the fare from Wichita on the two dates that were researched: This chart is an example of what Wichita’s fares would be without Frontier in this market. Frontier serves 50 destinations in the United States, two cities in Canada, San Jose, Costa Rica, and several cities in Mexico. From Wichita, Frontier has three daily flights to Denver.
