The City of Wichita, Sedgwick County Zoo & Westar Energy are teaming up to give away firewood this winter. The wood is left over from Westar Energy’s tree trimming line
clearance work and City forestry tree pruning and removal operations. The free wood is now available for pick up from 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. through February 2009 in the
north parking lot of the Sedgwick County Zoo, 555 Zoo Blvd.
"We are grateful for this partnership that allows us to give the public firewood from park and street tree pruning work,” said Tim Martz Superintendent of Park Maintenance and Forestry. “It also saves the community valuable disposal space at the Brooks Landfill.”
Besides the free firewood, customers can also pick up wood chips to use as mulch.
The City of Wichita, Sedgwick County Zoo and Westar Energy will not allow people to use chain saws when they pick up the firewood.
