USBC Reopens Search for 2011 Open Championships Site The United States Bowling Congress (USBC) has announced the bowling facility in Osceola County, FL will not be completed in time to host the 2011 Open Championships. According to the USBC, the private developer has not been able to secure financing to build the 100 lane facility. As a result, the USBC will begin a search immediately to secure a new site. “The USBC has not contacted the City of Wichita to explore the possibility of hosting the 2011 Open Championships here,” Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer said. “However, as with previous bids, the Greater Wichita Convention & Visitors Bureau is taking the lead to explore all options to determine if Wichita could meet the necessary space and hotel rooms requirements to host the 2011 Open Championships.” Last May, USBC officials canceled plans to bring the 2011 tournament to Wichita after contract negotiations stalled. The City of Wichita later rebid last July. But the USBC selected Osceola County, FL as the site to host the national championship tournaments. A decision on whether to submit a new bid will be made after all of Wichita’s options have been considered. The public will be notified after a decision is made. Back to Top
